Explanations

When the director of the Centre Pompidou, Pontus Hulten, asked Daniel Spoerri to organize an exhibition “Musée Sentimental”, Spoerri not only fulfilled his wish, but also created a counterpoint with the “Boutique Aberrante”, also at the Centre Pompidou.
For the “Boutique Aberrante” project on the occasion of the opening of the Centre Pompidou, Spoerri asked fellow artists for objects from their studios.
The starting point for Spoerri’s engagement with (random) objects was a nail clipper stolen in 1957 from the studio of the late artist Brancusi.
Many different objects were collected, which became part of the exhibition and could later be purchased.
